Watery Wednesday

I was looking for a photo from 2009 and came across this shot:

 http://justpictureit.shutterchance.com/theme/1-all-themes/image/2009/05/12/friends/

Amazing to see all the names or past regular contributers here. We have really come down in the number of people on the blog

A Watery Wednesday candidate found in the unassigned bin.

A lot of people don't really like these birds but I find that they have such character and are fun to watch
Mary MacADNski: They are well enough fed here that they don't bother people. I love watching them.
This is a lovely shot, Mary! Frank has commented on how few of us seem to be left on SC... I wonder why. It is time consuming - but I think we have a very fun and supportive community. I guess it's not what everyone is looking for.
Mary MacADNski: Perhaps people wonder if they will fit in when they see the chatter. Also some may not like that kind of social commentary rather than strictly that about photography.
i love the pattern of the water here Mary!

thanks for a walk down memory lane....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I don't know why I chose that other than it was near what I was searching for. It does not have many comments. When I think back to older times even, so many people now gone from here.

Love the dynamics evident in the water surface, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Not a total waste then. A bit overexposed and sitting in the unassigned bin for a couple of years.

A handsome gull
Mary MacADNski: Relaxed really, not like the ones flying about from this year.
My guess is, Mary, that many people have stopped blogging altogether and have gone to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for their fast fixes. There was a day when one could get 60+ comments here. Now we're lucky if we get 20. But for us die-hards, it's become a family which stays up on each other. If the place ever closes down, we'll have to create a Facebook group just for us! smile
Mary MacADNski: Yes, I guess we could do that but I do hope it does not go away.
You wonderfully captured this handsome fella Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Very kind of you, Richard.

It would be nice if we had some new blood - perhaps we could all make the effort to encourage anyone new
Mary MacADNski: I think that is a marvelous idea.
I have grown to like all of the contributors Mary and feel that we are like a family. We have witnessed a lot of each other's lives. I don't use Facebook or any other social media so, when this ends, that's it.
Mary MacADNski: I use facebook for family and as Ginnie says, if SC were to disappear we could meet there.

They always have this hard look in the eyes.

Yes, we have dwindled. Pity.
Mary MacADNski: Dwindles so, so much really. It is a pity.
speaking for myself, i do not feel weary, not just yet!
Mary MacADNski: I am not weary either. I wonder if it is just the wrong critiquing for some people. We don't have much technical or photography talk as much as friendly banter.

Seems to be quite happy bobbing about. We have some stormy seas at the moment (the remains of the snow from the USA East coast - just heavy rain here). Not the sea conditions for gulls!

As regards SCers, quality is more important than quantity. There are so many photo sharing web sites now that I supporse it is inevitable that people drift away. Time is also an issue, too, especially if you're working. Looking at that shot from 2009, the majority are still here smile
Mary MacADNski: I chose a poor example. Most others have more comments reminding us of many more people. Have a look back there. It is amazing.

Looking chilled out as he surveys the scene
Mary MacADNski: Finally gone from the unassigned bin!
A very fine shot Mary. There are definitely quite a few names come and gone in the years I have been on SC but most of the group I have become friendly with still remain and long may it remain so. Like Chad I am not on any of the social media sites but I do feel some sort of affinity with all you lovely people, even more so because I have had the opportunity to meet quite a few of you, and one day perhaps I might get to meet you also.
Mary MacADNski: I would like to come there if there is a meetup in later spring. I am busy until then. I miss certain people and certain people's photos.

I know what you mean when you go back in time to see comments made. I love it and it shows now the die-hards...
This is a wonderful picture of the floating gull...
I am also very happy with my un-assigned bin... comes is handy
Have a good rest of the week.
Mary MacADNski: We need a bit of new blood or a return of some of our former friends here. I truly miss a lot of the people and their photos.
Yup - people come and go smile
Mary MacADNski: It is kind of sad,to me.
Nice picture if you like gulls. We have dwindled but on the positive side I have a group of friends on here and I do miss some of those who have left
Mary MacADNski: I miss a lot of people and a lot of the great photos and work that we once got to see every day. Lots of cre8ivity has passed through.
Yes the numbers are getting a bit thin, still the quality and variety of posts give me a lot of pleasure and inspiration
Mary MacADNski: I miss them too. I have invited a visitor to most of our blogs the other day.
