When all was molten lava perhaps. Nice contrast between the forms.

Mary MacADNski: Some are magical collecting places, like this.
Great contrast between the two types of rock.
Mary MacADNski: They are exactly the same kind of rock but one was caught in a layer that let water and debris in for a few million years.

That's interesting. It looks as though it was subjected to violent cooling process when first formed millions of years ago.
Mary MacADNski: Sandstone is sedimentary rock, basically sand in or near water sitting heavily apon itself for millions of years.
