photoblog image Blueberry Island

Blueberry Island

This log has been living in this pond for over fifty years. A family of geese is hatched on it every year and after many years the exact spot where the nest was separated the log into two pieces so the goose had to build a new nest. The brood has hatched and the geese were off visiting elsewhere when I was there on Saturday. All of the pink, low shrubbery is wild blueberry plants.

Jolies photos, on dirait une petite île.
Mary MacADNski: It is an island, made from an old log.

I hope you catch up with the geese again, Mary
Mary MacADNski: The owners said they had gone to the pond on the other side of the road.
I presume this beautiful log is anchored Mary!
Mary MacADNski: It is grounded. Had floated there and lodged there forever.

Ahhh.. the poor geese; I expect they were looking forward to raising their new family on their island retreeat. On the log, they would be safe from predators.
Mary MacADNski: No, no, they built the nest there on the smaller part on the second shot. I was surprised you could not see her nest as the sides were not high being the first year in a new nest. She will add to it over the years. It is only ankle deep and only a few meters from shore. No safer there in actuality but it looks like they are, I suppose.
I suppose one day it will be gone, but for now it makes a nice picture Mary
Mary MacADNski: It looks pretty solid for it's age. It will separate into two distinct islands before it disappears entirely.
Is t it wonderful how these sort of island paradises develop Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I offered the people a huge log to make another but they declined. I may put it in my own pond if I can get it transported the 100 meters.

I am imagining you using this in a children's book with a story you could write.
This is amazing... great shot...
Very pretty, Mary! And what a wonderful thing!!
Wouldn't it be nice to think all those geese were of the same family through the generations.
