Crow Call

As soon as the hay is cut, black birds of every kind descend onto the fields to have their fill of exposed insects. This baby crow couldn't find it's mother and was displaying that annoying baby crow call that will almost hurt your ears if you hear it long enough. Even the cats cover their ears.

It seems Manhatten Transfer was popular in Europe. I looked at many live versions of this song to choose one and many were taped there.

Lovely agriscape, up close, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Usually cut hay is shown in the typical rows.
Well he caught your attention, didn't he?!
I only had really listened to "Boy from New York City" before... I love their harmony!
Mary MacADNski: I have a couple of their albums.

Talking of baby bird cries - I heard our one and only baby surviving blackbird squeaking loudly yesterday - it had just been caught by a sparrow-hawk
Mary MacADNski: Oh no! I know one of my cats killed one of the barn swallows in my study. I was heartbroken as I aAM SURE YOU WERE OVER THIS INCIDENT.

They learn fast don't they..
Mary MacADNski: I like how they have their lessons in a classroom style.
Poor baby crow Mary!
Mary MacADNski: This week (that was a month ago) the parents are leaving the crows by themselves for longer periods and the babies are squawking about it quite loudly.
Crows are not the most melodious of birdsgrin

Manhattan Transfer were very popular here and rightly so
Mary MacADNski: Adult crows don't hurt my ears but immature crows truly hurt my ears and brain.
The crows in our garden can be really annoying Mary, especially when they would peck at fresh linseed oil putty on our new Windows.
Mary MacADNski: Oh, that would not be good - for the window or the crow.
They can't be as noisy as the Magpies that live near me! Thanks for the video, I'd forgotten about them.
Mary MacADNski: I discovered magpies in Australia. We do not have them.

Some birds just have the most senseless cries. We have a lilac breasted roller, which is probably up there among the most beautiful birds in the world - but the sound it makes! Nice music while I am writing this smile
Mary MacADNski: Adult crow are fine but their babies cry is so awful! Glad you like the music.

She/he had found some hay - what a moving story!
Mary MacADNski: The baby are crying this week because the parents are leaving them for longer periods of time. Their cries hurt my brain and ears.

A lovely capture Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Anne.
Birds are great opportunists when food is exposed.
Mary MacADNski: I guess by now you have seen the next shot, the one with the potato.

I quite like the sound of adult crows on a late summer.s evening. I can understand your cats' reaction, though. Seagulls follow our tractors when turning the soil in the fields.
Mary MacADNski: Crows sound fine but their children have very harsh voices. Gulls follow our tractors too. I love watching them.
We have a resident Blackbird in our back garden every year, we do wonder if it is the same family returning.
Mary MacADNski: I would think it is.
Birdland is a fine song--very apropos...
