Thieves

I grabbed this quick snap of crows stealing the newly planted chunks of potatoes out of a field.  I have mentioned before how crows steal strawberries from the farm next door and share them with their young following lessons.  It must be hard to divvy up a potato.

Great video below of the wonderful Joni Mitchell at a private concert.

Superbe paysage. Les oiseaux profitent des graines qui ont été semées.
Mary MacADNski: The potato farmers would not be happy.

These are the cleverest of birds, probably brighter than some people..
Mary MacADNski: Ha ha. I do know some bright crows...

They don't miss a trick, Mary
Mary MacADNski: Not one. I love watching them.
Crows are everywhere Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I am glad they are. I quite like them though many do not.
Smart bird Mr Crow. Probably has a knife and fork back in the nest (also stolen)
Mary MacADNski: Both here and at work the babies have been driving my ears insanw. The mothers are leaving them for longer times and the children are calling, "Muuuuummmmm!"
Crows are always taking things without asking Mary. I liked/like Joni Mitchell. I believe that shoe is from your part of the world.
Mary MacADNski: She is from the Prairies, a long way from the Maritimes. I have been a big fan of hers from the beginning. Crows are well behaved here, it seems. They have taken nothing from here that I know.

Love the crows and a great Joni song to lighten my day ;o)
Mary MacADNski: I got only one shot but would liked to have taken a closer one. Joni is good any day!

There are only a few crows. The potatoes fields are now in full bloom as yourself posted.
Mary MacADNski: This field pictured started blooming yesterday. In a few days it will be beautiful.
Crows are determined birds.
Mary MacADNski: The babies have been driving my ears insane. The mothers are leaving them for longer times and the children are calling, "Muuuuummmmm" over and over and over....

I am sure they find a way - though I think the strawberry option is the more preferable smile
Mary MacADNski: My neighbour the strawberry grower knew about the crows and was impressed that they were taking only a few throughout the day. Had they been stealing too many, he would have had to scare them off. I have seen crows in potato fields and assumed they were eating insects or worms but this surprised me.
The water gets in everywhere in PEI it seems!
Mary MacADNski: It is an island after all.
I guess if its there and available they'll give it a go.
Mary MacADNski: It is the first time I have seen it, Brian. I have seen crows in potato fields and assumed they were eating insects or worms.

Haha!! Potatoes and strawberries; sounds OK to me.
Mary MacADNski: They do all right on the island. We do have a crow walk in an annual arts festival. I have taken part many, many years.
Stop, thieves! smile
