Getting Ready

Most provisions are stowed away for the trip and about half of us are standing in line to receive the beginning of our poker hand. Yes, we had a lot on board.

Last year by pure luck, the poker run was held on Captain Bob's 60th birthday. This year by the same streak of luck, it fell on the Captain and his First Mate, Laurel's, 40th wedding anniversary. The poker run is always held the last Sunday in July.  Luck stayed with us too, as for the first time, the winning poker hand was won by someone on our boat. She won $500.

Poker runs--beyond the 3-mile-limit?
Mary MacADNski: It is around the waters surrounding Murray River, Murray Harbour and Beach Point on the eastern side of PEI. Look it up on a google map. No three mile limit.
$500 is nothing to sneeze at on a fun-filled day, Mary. I know you never miss this for anything.
Mary MacADNski: It is such an important event for me and the kids. My daughter always comes home for it.

The Poker Run seems to come round very quickly, Mary
Mary MacADNski: Only once a year. It is funny how this works. Winter comes around too often and summer comes around not often enough.

With all that guzzling activity, Mary, this could be Australia!
Mary MacADNski: My son is one of the guzzlers here. The other is the triathlete. Everything comes in cans these days. Instead of a coffee my son has some energy drink. This could be beer however.

Looks like fun filled day. I bet Captain Bob and his First Mate had a very special day.
Mary MacADNski: They had a great day. Bob was at the helm. His older brother took it last year for Bob`s 60th.

What for a fun to be together at this poker runs!
Mary MacADNski: It really is fun. It is so full of family water sports with the safety of numbers and great comraderie among boating people. Usually these are working boats.
Fun being had by all!
Mary MacADNski: It was a most wonderful afternoon in so many ways.

Caught any shelled bottom dwellers? From what I can see, the boat is well stocked with condiments to consume them grin
Mary MacADNski: This is party time not work time. Our season is over on the east and it is work time on the western side of the island.
You clearly all have a great time every year Mary!
Mary MacADNski: My daughter comes home every for it every year and that is just the start of the goodness of the weekend.
