photoblog image Get Me Through December

Get Me Through December

The photo is from my beloved unassigned bin. I am writing this on 26 November and we have no snow at this time.

I suffer from December Affective Disorder. My whole adult life has been fraught with depression in December. I know that Christmas is the favorite season for many but not for me. I am filled with dread, despair, depression and feelings of doom.  Normalcy returns in January.  Weird, I know.

Since 2000, I have had a friend that helps me get through this month.  A song.  Music does soothe the soul.  I play this beautiful song all month long.

This pic needs a parade of pink and purple rabbits running through, Mary...
Mary MacADNski: I suppose you might be able to see some if intoxicated in some ways, or with lewey body syndrome.
This is a lovely photo of shadow play.
We will help you through, Mary! If nothing else, to help you check off the days as they pass... Only 26 days to go - hang in there, buddy!
Mary MacADNski: I have been busy with all kinds of things but I do remain the ritual of playing this song every day.

If it is any compensation to you, I don't like this time of year, including Christmas, either Mary
Mary MacADNski: I do know others feel like I do. I have a whole lot of personal deaths in this month as well as birthdays and then the whole christmas thing. Whew!
When I worked in a psychiatric hospital years ago, Mary, this was the time of the year when we had the highest admittance of short-term patients. I like what Elizabeth said...that we will all help you get through it till the New Year comes 'round the corner.
Mary MacADNski: Something else we have in common, Ginnie. I had a great weekend with a surprise trip to sharer my children's birthday.

I see the snow glittering - oh, how I wish to experience a white winter!
Mary MacADNski: We will certainly see some snow in this part of the year but it is still a mystery of how much.

Yes, music can help you, and you know so many lovely songs! And eat some chocolate, this might enliven the mood, too.
Mary MacADNski: Music truly does help, Philine, and I do like old Christmas music. I bought Belgian truffles yesterday. Thank you for that advise.
A lot of people find December a difficult month. The gross commercialisation is starting to spoil it for even the most enthusiastic.
Mary MacADNski: Mine is mostly due to deaths in the family in this month but yet it has several birthdays too.
No snow! Nor have we, the post is often late though Mary.
Mary MacADNski: We will have some over the winter for sure. Winter started late for a couple of years too.

You are like my youngest son, who suffers in December and bucks up in January as the days begin to get longer again. I suppose years ago we in the north of the northern hemispehere used to semi-hibernate
Mary MacADNski: I have had several family deaths in December as well as births. Lots of emotion to handle in this month.

Yes I am feeling more down than usual in December too, something to do with less sunlight and the colder weather. I don't think I would survive long in your part of the world...

.... How about a nice log fire to go with the music?
Mary MacADNski: I am not sure it is not weather related as we get more winter in Jan and Feb and I don't mind them at all. We have a lot of deaths and births in this month in our family. I have had some weird Christmases.

A great snow shot. Life is a bit unfair, I agree. If all this snow could fall here (it will melt in double quick time) the after effects of the previous summer's drought would be put to bed in double quick time.

Christmas is not my happy time - to an extent. Too many memories of Christmasses past, when I was a child, when my children were small, grew up, now the grandchildren are growing up. It all reminds me of how old I am - the rest of the time, I am not that old smile
Mary MacADNski: I get the age every January with my birthday but have had a lot of death in my family in December. I have two children, a grandchild and a nephew born in Dec. too. It is an up and down and emotional month.
Très jolies ombres sur cette neige brillante.
Mary MacADNski: It is a sight so beautiful at the time.
It is a beautiful picture of the snow Mary. I don't get depressed as such in December but it is surely the most dull of months with not much in the way of daylight and for you in PEI the difficulties of travel in the snow of course. All of on SC will try and keep you cheerful every day if we can.
Mary MacADNski: I appreciate your promise of cheer hereabouts.

Nothing weird about that....I have/had a kind of hate/love with December. There are so many things that people expect from you... and always that question 'what do you do with Christmas'.... we have our Christmas meal at our house this Saturday. In that case 'we' all can do what we want with Christmas, no obligations....
I hope for you that January comes soon.
Mary MacADNski: Once I pass my birthday in early January, I feel fine. It is about expectations and other things for me with many deaths in our family this month. Birthdays too though.
what a beautiful image of shadows and crystals in the snow Mary...

you will make it through December and we will bring you cheers and laughter every day....petersmile

Natalie and Alison make such beautiful sounds Mary...
Mary MacADNski: I have had this on pretty well every Dec playlist in every year since this was released. I have posted it here before when I posted mp3's.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't like Christmas, either. No, that's not quite true; I don't like the three month run-up to Christmas and the mass commercialism of it but I'm OK with the day itself. This year will be first without a parent to consider so that will be quite different. Try not to think of December; just consider it to be a very long November to say the 14th day and then an early start to January. I'm sure your friends and family will help you through. Your cats couldn't really give a damn about Christmas - be like them smile
Mary MacADNski: My friends do get me through as it is an old affliction with me. Last year's Christmas Day walk is an example. I had a friend to go hiking with and got great shots.
