photoblog image May Flower

May Flower

Mayflowers (trailing arbutus) Epigaea repens, are amongst the sweetest of flowers. They come in April and May and are so important for the polinators who are here then.

I found a blog that describes them very well. It is Nova Scotia's provincial wildflower.

It must smell very sweet to attract pollinating bees
Mary MacADNski: It is one of my favorite all time smells.
We had a swarm yesterday evening, just outside our house. I had to shut the windows because some were coming inside.
Mary MacADNski: We had a swarm in my son's bedroom window years ago. No fun at all!
The Bees certainly like them.
excellent image. i like the bright, almost reflective nature of the leaves
Mary MacADNski: The leaves are very shiny. The flower has a very intense smell.
I like the little bee Mary
