Vive Le Difference

The editing program I use has an AutoLevel button.  Sometimes I am astounded at what changes it brings about. The bottom shot has the AutoLevel applied.

It is a gorgeous field of flars without the twiddle, Mary...I am guessing you were moved to dance through it in bare feet and full skirt...
Mary MacADNski: I absolutely did, Ray. I think you just recognized me.
Beautiful shots! I have a similar feature... sometimes the change is subtle - sometimes not!
Mary MacADNski: I usually do not like the effect as it often changes the colour like this has. It seems to sharpen too. I never use it as I find the resul;ts quite gaudy.

It seems to have added a lot of light blue into the mix
Mary MacADNski: I never use it as I find the results quite gaudy with the wide colour changes it provides.
Best left well alone I think.
Mary MacADNski: I agree.
For some strange reason the AutoLevel has taken out a lot of the greens so the flower stems look rather blue, hence the original version, in this case, looks the better of the two.
Mary MacADNski: The stems are not green in real life but more the grey but certainly not that blue. The second is truer but not so blue.

It's always worth trying all the options until until you get the desired results. The vast major of my shots have some Levels adjustment applied to them.
Mary MacADNski: I don't edit that way, just straightening and dust removal. Once in a while I do something else but rarely and I usually mention it in the post.
i like the sharpness of the bottom but i like the warmer tones of the top one, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: The second is truer but the usually greyish stems of the red hawkweed is not so blue.
i love the way the AutoLevel worked out for you Mary...

remember when we were purists and only posted untreated images...
progress is not all that bad grin
....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I rarely edit an image still, peter. I straighten my horizons and remove sensor dirt spots.
