Masts of Many

On Canada Day I ventured in to see the tall ships here for 150th birthday celebrations. The line-ups were long for anyone with a bag to board the ships but people without bags could enter easily.  I had my camera bag, had parked my car far away, so I did not go aboard.

The second shot is from afar and it is hard to see any individual ships they are packed in so tightly.  Twelve were scheduled to visit.

Love that rigging!
Mary MacADNski: There is lots of it of different styles.
I love the tangle of lines... Security has become a necessary evil.
Mary MacADNski: No bags, you could walk right in. If only we had known beforehand.
Look at the Dutch flag!!!!!!!!!! At least you saw that, Mary! smile
Mary MacADNski: The dutch one was the square rigger, my favorite.

Nice to see aren't they
Mary MacADNski: They have had huge regattas in Halifax in the past but this small one of 12 suited the site.

What a sight that must have been, Mary. I like the massed masts

I like your image very much - a great event to celebrate the 150th birthday.
Mary MacADNski: Just a few for this small province.

They make for a fine display. I especially like all the ropes (for reasons I have never understood, I believe they are called "sheets"). Can you imagine climbing aloft to rig the sails?
Mary MacADNski: The sails are the sheets - sheets to the wind.

Blimey, you wouldn't want to get all those strings in a tangle.
Mary MacADNski: It might be a good idea not to do anything unless you knew what you were doing.
Superbe, j'adore cette forêt de mâts.
Mary MacADNski: Tou had many from a similar regatta in the past, in Brest.
Nice shots, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I have some better too.

Great shot of the rigging of the masts - and the sailors have to know where everything goes.
Mary MacADNski: The sailors definitely know the ropes.
I particularly like the top image Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I have better ones, I think.
