photoblog image Labour Day Crew

Labour Day Crew

This photo was taken on Labour Day weekend in 2009.  I went on an annual inspection of my land on another part of the island. I took a few shots of this boat from the beach and the people aboard started yelling and wildly waving.  Neither my friend or I could figure out what was going on.

A couple of hours later we left the beach, went up on land, and there was the whole crew at the cottage next to my land. It is owned the couple sitting on the back of the boat.  They live in another province but spend the whole summer at the cottage on the Island.  Lobsters were cooking and a couple of people were setting out a table full of food.  We were told they were yelling to us from the boat to wait and join their party. I had only ever met two of the people on the boat before, but this is the Island Way. Of course we stayed for a couple of lobsters and brews, the end to a perfect day.

An excellent anecdote, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thank you, Ray.
Well, then. If it's "your land," Mary, it seems only right that you would have been invited to share the spoils. Good for them...and you.
Mary MacADNski: They are my neighbours next door to my land.

Sounds like a real neighbourly thing to do

Wish I'd taken that bottom picture
Mary MacADNski: It was a very happy coincidence. That bottom is funny!

I like the bottom picture - no pun intended - the way the blowing veil echoes the horses tail.
Mary MacADNski: It is a very funny shot.
Sounds like a great day! Love the second pic which gives the bride horse's legs!

My account is still problematical - can't reply to comments or upload new pics.
Mary MacADNski: Very strange about your acct., eh?
A great story of sudden friendship. I like your island way... the bottom photo is absolutely hysterical!
Mary MacADNski: I had met the neighbours a few times, always on a labour day weekend but the rest were all new. I used to spend a lot of time up there in the early 70's when I bought the land, before moving here.

Oh, those lobsters - I would immediately understood what they were shouting from the boat - even if I had to use my sixth sense.
i am sure it was a good time spent there although a bit of a surprise? a nice event, Mary

Certainly the couple sat on teh boat want to get away from the others by the look of it; it must be love. Good to strangers are only friends you've not met before.

I like the bride's legs smile

Now that is a great story and what very friendly those people are. Never turn off a good invitation with good food....
When is the Next Labor day? I would not mind a lobster. smile
