i tried to figure out what this was before reading the description, but was unable

that's a beautiful shoreline across the way
Mary MacADNski: The opposite shore is the town of Stratford.
Displays are serious business. In my old home town we used to have the display world championships.
Mary MacADNski: PEI is 'the cradle of confederation' where the meetings for our confederation took place. The federal government always kicks in some extra for the Charlottetown display. Last year with the 150 anniversary, even more was spent so it was supposedly quite excellently spectacular.
I bet it was great fun!
Mary MacADNski: I would be fast asleep. It was said to be spectacular. Please read Franks comment for the info.

I am sure they know what they are doing and in case of danger, just jump into the water...
Did you stay for the fireworks, Mary?
Mary MacADNski: Water is traditional for that reason. I would be asleep by the time of fireworks.

I expect that lot went up well from a river setting and all the reflections.
Mary MacADNski: The river and harbour joins a city and a town with parks available for the viewers, a safe way.

I wouldn't like to see that lot go up in one go

'Poseidon' is a fitting name.

It's good that they are done inlay from land; safer and probably give a better view, too. I have to say as pretty as fireworks are, I feel sorry for the animals affected by the noise. My cats hated them.
they have to be skilled workers to play around with all of those fireworks in such a small space Mary....petersmile
Ah! A big day!
I hope you went to wtach it Mary.
They are preparing a night of light, even here on the lake they do it for the holidays of August
