Sheep Shape

Some sheep and lambs in the pasture behind my house. With all the rain we had in October grass was thicker than it has been all summer.

reminds me of home. They have all sorts of colours they tag the sheep with.
Mary MacADNski: Each ram has a different colour. Tells who the daddy is. This farm has only one ram.
Not their best angle, eh?
Mary MacADNski: They like the beef cattle think only of food.

they're amazing creatures and i never get to see them in person - only in photographs
Mary MacADNski: This and yesterday's cows are behind my house, at different times. I love having them there.
Certainly happy little sheepies! Haven't heard that song in a while - thank you!
Mary MacADNski: I love how my Youtube recommends things based on what I play or look up there. I hadn't heard it in a time too.

Some very contented sheep, then. I don't remember your showing sheep before, Mary
Mary MacADNski: These are in the pasture behind my house. I don't have a very long lens. I show the cattle more often, I guess but the sheep only once in a while. These sheep and yesterday's cattle are in the same pasture, at different times of year.

I like the way they all are lookingaway from you.
Mary MacADNski: They care only about grass. Like uesterday's cattle but for one I finally got the attention of.

So the sheep were making up for lost time Mary
Mary MacADNski: Yes, I heard of worse conditions in Sweden for pasture and hay but ours was very bad.

I see their bums are also thicker smile A lovely pastoral landscape.
Mary MacADNski: Fat, like yesterday's beef cattle. Good for sales, I would say.

And they like to present their behinds! I like your Sheep Friday very much.
Mary MacADNski: I had to sneak up behind them. smile
Your images show these sheep as being well fed and healthy. What significance does the red marking have, Mary? I've never thought of the Island having many sheep farms.
Mary MacADNski: The ram leaves that mark on the females. There are quite a few sheep on the island. I have two neighbours who have sheep.
Quite nice company round your way Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I love when there are animals in that pasture. Years ago this farm raised dairy cattle and milked as well. The cows were in the field right next to us and the kids grew up feeding them grass over the fence. The field is used for crops now, hay, soybeans or grain; this year barley.

Now there's some meaty backsides though. Our long dry summer caused a lot of issues with our livestock farmers trying to keep them all fed and watered.
Mary MacADNski: There was less hay to cut for winter storage as well. I read about the severity of the problem in Sweden. Worse than here.
in the first photo they were giving you the bums rush Mary... i'm glad that two of them turned around for the second shot....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I had to snek up behind or cause a stampede. smile
Awwww. SHEEP. Makes me feel right at home, Mary! smile
Mary MacADNski: Good, you'd feel welcome here then.
Fattening up before the winter smile
Mary MacADNski: They and yesterday's cattle (same field; different times) did a good job of it, don't you think. Eating machines, all.

That is a wonderful sight, Mary. And some of the sheep will become mother in Spring. I assume that you know that when a sheep has paint on the butt..... she had some fun with a male sheep... wink...
I think you need the rain just like we do...
Mary MacADNski: Yes, I just explained the significance to Beverly. smile
The sheep in the top image look headless Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Their heads are completely stuck in the grass. They care only about eating. They are like yesterday's cattle except for the one I finally got the attention of.
