photoblog image Deep in the Forest 3

Deep in the Forest 3

I did not cut this or turn it over.  Found it lying like this on the grass between a parking lot and woods.

We hope never to be found upside down on An Island Walk.

The work of the PEI Beaver!
Mary MacADNski: Tom got it right, I think.

"I has obviously been neatly cut - suspect it dropped out of someone's basked! Looks like a cepe/porcini/boletus - very tasty!"
I think that it just tripped getting out of it's car Mary....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I agree. Tom got it right, I think.

A very interesting image Mary. Perhaps it has been felled by an anumal?

Looks like a brown foam rubber hat, that was left behind.

The basket was too full!

Very strange, I guess someone cut it off and then didn't fancy it anymore.

I thought you had found a cowboy hat from the thumbnail Mary

Haha, the mystery may never be solved, Mary, but it really does look as if it has been cut. Do you know if this would be an edible mushroom?

Looks to be a big 'un. I wonder how that happened?

Wow I wonder if it is edible Mary. If you are at all like me you are reluctant to take the risk.

an unusual photo I like - sometimes we should look upside down at the things - a fine mushroom!
Mary MacADNski: Yes, it was fun to see . It was obviously dropped from a basket.

It looks like a big hat... amazing to see the structure of the mushroom. A great shot and it I assume this was a big mushroom.
Mary MacADNski: It was very large. A great big treat that dropped out of someone's basket.
Quite a big one Mary! I like the textures.
Mary MacADNski: I love the textures of the boletus. Tom got it right, I think.

It might have discarded by someone who had 2nd thoughts Mary?
Mary MacADNski: Perhaps. It is an edible type though. I would avoid any I didn't know. Only use the camera to get them - like yesterday's aminita.
A fine selection of interesting fungi, Mary. I wish I knew enough about them to try some.
Mary MacADNski: There are lots of books and even tests to tell if you have the proper mushroom. A bit of study and testing until you are familiar enough with them to know by sight is the best way. Walks with someone in the know is good to if you're not a book person.
It reminds me of a sombrero!
