photoblog image Yellow Sprouted Field

Yellow Sprouted Field

I haven't been showing agricultural fields as often these days.  I still photograph them though so here is a series featuring them for the next while.

I have no idea what was fall planted here that sprouts yellow.  The field is too far away to see clearly.  It is very unusual to my eyes.  Many, many fields are sprouting the new growth of fall planted grains but they are green, very bright green, and the yellow is really puzzling me.

We are thinking back to summer fields on An Island Walk.

I'd have no idea what the plant is. But I love you're photo - with the layers of colors and that big sky!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Elizabeth. I guess the origin of the colour will remain a mystery.
The yellow fall sprouts may be puzzling Mary... but they look beautiful through your lens....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Peter.

Maybe one day you can walk closer and investigate. To me it makes a great picture, love the palette of colours.
Mary MacADNski: It is someone's private field and I would have to investigate.

Wonderful photo, the colours are stunning ~ I'd like a quilt like it!!
Mary MacADNski: PEI landscape is often compared to a quilt.

It is possible that these plants have been sprayed & killed off, hence the discolouration - but that is only a guess
Mary MacADNski: This might be the best guess actually.

Tiff might be right Mary, the colour makes for an interesting photograph though and I look forward to seeing the others.
Mary MacADNski: I fear he is right too. If I knew how to make an emoticon of a sad face I would do so now.

Hmmmm. If you don't know, Mary, it's anyone's guess, for sure! It reminbds me of something you'd see in the spring.
Mary MacADNski: Most plants sprout green even in spring.
A pleasing fieldscape, I've no idea for the crop in question
Mary MacADNski: Thank you, Martin. I just threw it out there.

I like the composition of this photo very much. Our yellow fields now are rape.
Mary MacADNski: This is just coming up as a fall cover. The rape is yellow when it is the flowering stage.
great view. i am not too familiar with agricultural fields but that does not subtract from the beauty
Mary MacADNski: Like I am not familiar with the big cities like where you live. I often think of that here.
nice sky
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Ma'am.

In our part of the world, I would think 'wheat', which is planted early summer and ripens into fall. Canola can also make quite an yellow show, but from the distance the growth look too low for canola.

Doesn't matter; great picture.
Mary MacADNski: Same cycle of year but the yellow is in the mid or flowering stage. This is something new coming up in a field or perhaps grass that has grown up since the harvest that has been sprayed to kill it. Phew! long sentence.
Wow, those clouds are fantastic!
Mary MacADNski: If I was a twiddler they could be more so.
Regardless of what the yellow crop may be, Mary, this is a lovely image. Love the minimalist look of it.
Mary MacADNski: A nice foreground for the clouds.
It's certainly an eye catcher whatever it is like a yellow river. Lovey shot
Mary MacADNski: It was startling to see really.
Well it's the wrong time of year for oil seed rape so i have no idea.
Mary MacADNski: Exactly! It will remain a mystery but Chris' suggestion of having been sprayed could perhaps be what has occurred.
Rape seed? Although rape is usually yellower.
Mary MacADNski: It is yellow in mid season when flowering, not when sprouting.
I really do like this Mary, such a simple, but attractive image. The filed on your link is also pleasant and the Heron in the heading shot is excellent.
Mary MacADNski: The new format has the head uncentered and it is driving me crazy.
Lovely layering with that big sky Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks. We do have a very layered landscape.
Lovely composition with these layers Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard.

In middle europe we know winter rape (in Canada especially summer rape), the sowing was in August, the harvest will be in early summer next year. I saw yellow blooming rape fields last Sunday with my own eyes.
Mary MacADNski: They didn't look like this though, did they?
The lone white tree adds a fine touch...
Mary MacADNski: Yes. It must be a dead tree as there isn't a leaf in sight.

Not oil seed rape is it? It's a very big crop for us in England but usually around May time.
Mary MacADNski: Same with us. This is a sprout or dead grass that has been sprayed.

You have me vibrating with anticipations, Mary.

Wonderful!
Mary MacADNski: The countryside is spectacular these days with the coloured leaves which I will show after the fields. Too much to show with one shot per day here,.
