photoblog image Ice Field

Ice Field

The ice is washed out on the b/w and the trees are too black but other that that, I like the texture in the field.

Gimme colour!
Mary MacADNski: Colour gives so much more information.
Very atmospheric - I like the different shots for different reasons. As you say the textures (not just on the field) in the B&W... but the colors are lovely in the lower pic!
Mary MacADNski: Thi9s one does have good points in both versions.

The b&w image is delightful
Mary MacADNski: I love the foreground very much in the b/w.
Actually, Mary, the trees are NOT too black in the B&W image (not for me) because they demarcate the foreground from the background so well. That's my choice but I also like the color.
Mary MacADNski: It is so nice to see our different ways of seeing. I learn something new every week.

The black and white picture is the more striking, Mary - I go for that
Mary MacADNski: It has less information but is indeed striking. Thanks. I love Mondays.

I see what you mean about the ice with black and white.
Mary MacADNski: Yes, the ice could be sun-blown water.

Still, I like the strong contrasts in this b&w.
Mary MacADNski: The contrast was perfect there. I love these straight conversions as they are always a surprise.

Two complete different pictures just because of the B&W... very impressive, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: That is the truth. I find that quite often that they are so, so different.
Me being the awkward person I am I like the sky in the upper image and the forground in the bottom one.
Mary MacADNski: The ice in the middle is the strange one for me. In colour we know it is ice. In b/w it could be sun-blown water or ice.
i am a bit ambiguous, Mary... i like both!
Mary MacADNski: I love the dialogue on Mondays so please be as ambiguous as you like . If you read back on these comments you can see the variety.
This is one where colour works best for me Mary
Mary MacADNski: It has much more information.

I think the silhouettes of the trees are very effective Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Anne. They have hardly any light at all on them so do become silhouettes.
The ice looks fine to me, and the field...
Mary MacADNski: Thanks so much.
Still, it's overall and nice effect, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Yes, I am my own worst critic.
goof land and ice fields Mary... i like them both equally......petersmile
I do prefer the colour myself Mary
Mary MacADNski: That is the way with several people.

when i first saw the greyscale version, i thought it was frozen water instead of a field
Mary MacADNski: This is a straight b/w conversion. Greyscale would give much more information. The colour tells us what is is. A difficult one. I do this every Monday.

Yes, the texture of the field works well in B&W.
Mary MacADNski: That is my favorite aspect of all. Weird, eh.
