Oyster Tonging

Oyster Fishermen on the Pinette River in mid October.

A Slice of Island Life

Today, the 14th of November, we have clocked 130 km winds this morning so no fishermen are out working.  The bridge to one mainland is closed and the ferry to the other mainland is obviously not running. We have had an autumn of extreme wind, a lot of rain, and early snow fell yesterday, on the 13th of November. I have an appointment to get my snow tires on this week so by the time you read this, two weeks later, I will be all set.

Nice shot Mary, sounds like you are battening down for winter, as we are...smile
Mary MacADNski: I have just been without electricity for 23 hours in another furious storm. I lost shingles off my outbuilding. Trees and electricity poles are down. Totally unusual for this early.

what a fantastic job

photographed beautifully
Mary MacADNski: Thanks very much, sherri.
Very nice, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Oyster fisherman were really caught by this sudden winter. They are lobbying to purchase insurance like ground farmers do. I meant to say oyster growers.

I hope you are all set, Mary. Weather is very unpredictable as we all know and 130 km is a lot. This is a wonderful picture.
Mary MacADNski: We have just come out of a storm where we lost power for 23 hours. Some still have none. Many trees and electricity poles are down.

I don’t blame them with winds of that speed.
Mary MacADNski: We have just come out of a storm where we lost power for 23 hours. Some still have none. Many trees and electricity poles are down. I just checked and the winds were N100. It was a very cold day and night here but I had lots to eat.
I can honestly say I have never tonged an oyster
Mary MacADNski: Nor have I but I have eaten many of them.

Does everybody set themselves up with snow tyres Mary?
Mary MacADNski: Absolutely! So many were caught unawares this year as the sudden very early winter. My appt had been set for a while and that day, it first started to snow for a big storm was my day. I got them just in time unlike so many others.
Hunkered down for the long haul, Mary?! Just stay safe and don't slip on any ice!!!

Great foreground, mid and background. I'm trying to get that more often! Very restful.
