photoblog image Sunday Sky

Sunday Sky

I often leave tree tips as an anchor in sky shots.  I would like opinions on whether this is acceptable, a good idea, a bad idea; any opinions at all.

This is a lovely sky! Frank and I have discussed this subject in the past... we both agree that USUALLY it does help to have some kind of "anchor" as you say... I think in this image I would have preferred just a little more of the trees. Either that, or none - because to me, sometimes the cloud formations are interesting enough to stand alone.
I do agree with with Elizabeth, to a point ( could be in trouble here...) I think a sky would have to be exceptional to stand on its own and always prefer to have some foreground in it. However I would take shots of just a sky if I liked it just for myself. If you don't hear from me again....You know what happened. smile

I am in Frank's camp. I like some foreground even if it is only a tiny strip.
A good idea in case you want to come down again, Mary... smile
i agree with you, Mary, only that i would probably include a bit more to make it clear if it is a tree/bush/shrub.
It is a terrific sky but if I were to use an image similar to this at my club I would definitely have a lot more foreground, the trouble with using trees is half a tree looks odd because it doesn't appear to be connected to anything so probably include all the tree/s if possible.

I am always fascinated by the sky and am looking often upwards. I can almost see a sort of heart between the clouds.

i love how you captured this with just the tips of the trees
Hmmm...., interesting. I think to include such a small part of the tree it would have to be a very interesting shape or colour, or maybe to balance a particular cloud formation. I use the technique, too, but tend to use a bit more tree, (or any foreground)
