A Dark and Stormy Night
comments (22)
You can FEEL the blustery cold, Mary! Please stay warm!
Mary MacADNski: Absolutely - due to the magic of oil furnaces
There is nothing like horizontal snow puncturing your eyes.
Mary MacADNski: We were prepared and walked over two hours. It was fantastic!
Surely ver cold. An appropriate picture for the season.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Florence. We've had an unusual amount of storms this season.
Now that looks really cold.
Mary MacADNski: It was an exhilarating night.
Beautiful Picture. The golden glow from the streetlamps give it a sepia feel and the redish tint to the sky gives a bit of surealness (is that even a word?) to the serene looking old building. The blowing snow obstructs the archetectural details of the building, but you can still make out the large arched windows. I could almost expect it to be haunted on such a night.
I know I've seen this before on one of your other blogs (I can't remember which one) I'm thinking it's an old Church? Maybe in Moncton? Am I correct?
Mary MacADNski: It is the church on Main St in Moncton. Different photo for me, eh?
This one is fantastic, Mary. You've got the essence of the winter right here. I'm glad I'm in Atlanta, though we have record low temperatures these nights (19F tonight, below the damn zero in Celcius!)
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, VZ. I hope the heck you don't want me to feel sorry for those low temps. Your 19F is -7.6C. At the moment it is -14C or 5F. Brrrr. It will be much colder before the winter is out.
Stormy weather - yeah! But what is this about a second dislocation?
Great picture and thanks for showing what it is like.
Mary MacADNski: 2nd injury yes - in the morning of ny eve. I had to get driven back to hospital in a huge snowstorm. I was there was a big marshmallow I could sit on.
FROSTY winds here, love the 'warmth' glow of the lamps, it will be the only thing warm there I bet
Mary MacADNski: Our several snow storms are past. Now it is supposed to get cold. Right now - minus14C.
Wow! Such a great capture of the elements. I can feel my cheeks stinging, just looking at this. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: Thar's just what it was like.
This looks like some storm Mary, hope you have your thermals on
Mary MacADNski: It was the storm that delayed mt daughter's arrival. I was prepared....with the thermals.
Nice capture Mary. I can feel the cold through the screen
Mary MacADNski: The warm colour doesn't stop that cold feeling at all.
It seems to be snowing as well ... Nice effect !!!
Mary MacADNski: It certainly is snowing....and blowing.
The obvious wind and low temperature are contradicted by the warm glow being given off from the lights.
A good capture
Mary MacADNski: That was my take exactly on this photo.
Great shot. the 1/8th did well for capturing the speed with which the snow was coming down. It looks very cold! Certainly a good night for a weathersealed camera. I really want to get myself that Olympus E-3 so I can go out in the snow, sleet, and rain and not worry about the camera getting drenched! lol. Thanks for sharing. It's nice. That being said, you did great without the weathersealing too so I still can't justify it! lol.
Mary MacADNski: Kept it in the case an took it out only when needed. What i need now is a left handed camera. I'm finding photo taking very difficult.
When I see this I'm quite pleased we have a temperate climate in the UK
Mary MacADNski: This was during my trip away. I was walking and catching up with an old friend and though it was storming enough to cancel my daughter's flight, we walked for miles hardly noticing the weather. It was a fabulous night. The photo brings back the memory. Right now though, with 20 ft of snow, LOL, I too would prefer that temperate climate.
I agree with Bill but taday was like this in parts of Yorkshire, England, I was not as brave as you though and stayed in. Great shot

Keep warm Mary... brrr!!!
Mary MacADNski: Ha, the outdoor temps are plummeting. We're in for a cold night.
hey Mary! Leave the mega moody blurry stuff to me!...
Fantastic shot, composition, geometrics and mood! perfect. mal
Mary MacADNski: You know what? This did remind me of you....and Kathryn. She's away so won't see it.
Lovely warm glow of lamps for this dark and stormy night, mary.
Nice shot.
A shot that frost fingers. I think I shot the same church in Moncton last summer. Is it?
Mary MacADNski: Yes, it is in Moncton and yes, frosty fingers.
i can feel the wind blowing! hope you were able to stay warm. nice cpature
Mary MacADNski: I walked about 10 km that night with a friend I hadn't seen in years. We were talking so much we didn't feel the cold.
Yes it is snow !!!! BRRRRR ! It has been so cold Midsummer but this your pic is so cold but streetlamp is warm. NICE CONTRAST !!!!!
Mary MacADNski: I don't get many night shots but had this one in the files. Thanks, Nukke.
