How long did you stay for the mouse to come out of its hole?
Mary MacADNski: I got tired so the fox waited instead.
Yummy!
Do PEI folks eat field mice? They are regarded as an important part of the diet in up-country Thailand.
Mary MacADNski: My old dog was a mouser and she thought I should. She was always bringing home the big meadow voles and presenting them to me or leaving them right at the back door.
Mother Nature at her best, Mary! Look at that perfect round hole!
Mary MacADNski: Perfectly said, Ginnie. Thanks.
Endangered species?? Seems to me the owls and cats are pulling their weight on PEI.
Great picture.
Mary MacADNski: I watch "the fox" pouncing by the pond and in the fields, hunting for all they're worth. My cats won't go near these big meadow voles but can handle a little house mouse once in a while.
This is some mouse. It must have taken him or her ages to get such a perfect round hole.
Mary MacADNski: There are tons of holes in some places. They had a good winter as there was snow and it is protective for them.
Looks a large hole Mary may be it was a rat
Lovely natural shot
Mary MacADNski: The hole is from a meadow vole, commonly called a meadow mouse and they are huge.
Great capture Mary. Look at the size of the hole!

peep - peep... where is he?
Mary MacADNski: Maybe on vacation after the rough winter.
Thank goodness it's a mouse hole - I thought it might be a snake hole!!!
Mary MacADNski: Don't tell me that. It is right beside a pile of rocks!
Did you put some cheese and waited and waited.....
Great find, lovely colors..a nice hiding place.
Mary MacADNski: Ha, ha. Thanks, Astrid.
Perhaps I have got the scale wrong but my first thought was that you have big mice in Canada
Mary MacADNski: Meadow voles are very large but wait till tomorrow......
You know, I couldn't tell how big it is because there's no real scale, but it's a perfect hole, much better than I could make
Mary MacADNski: Yesterday's photo was a vole hole. A vole is a large field mouse. This is much bigger. I'm thinking it might be a squirrel hole and there was a weasel here a few weeks ago....
Ha you're commenting on yesterday's photo, not today's. Disregard everything I have said. |
