Mushroom Heaven

On one of the apple trees cut down after the hurricane,

a great colony of honey mushrooms took hold.

They grew and matured.

Ces champignons forment une magnifique décoration autour de l'arbre.
Care MacADNski: The other tree has none at all.
it is unusual to me how many of them are clustered close to each other, Mary. a nice bunch of shots.
Care MacADNski: I have seen these many times but had never researched them.
They are so fascinating, aren't they! Wonderful set of images!
Nice to hear this song!
Care MacADNski: They are quite different now. This song has been off and on YouTube over the years over rights. It is one of the best performances I have ever seen.
Quite a collection ! Can you eat these Mary ? ( Showing my ignorance smile )
Care MacADNski: They can be if picked at the right time and prepared a special way. No thanks.

Amazing how that happens so quickly.
Care MacADNski: It was very fast. I have a photo diary in a sense, continuing until today.

I wonder if this is honey fungus, the great killer of trees?
Care MacADNski: It is a honey mushroom and the link tells which one.
A fine set of fungi pictures Mary
Care MacADNski: It is still alive and I am still photographing it. Rain changed it.
Are they edible? If so, you'd get a lovely mushroom omelette!
Care MacADNski: They are not safe unless expertly procured and prepared.
What an amazing clutch of toadstalls.
Care MacADNski: I think it helps eat up tree stumps. Funny that two trees in close proximity were cut the same day and the other does not have the fungus.

That's quite a spread, Mary
Care MacADNski: It is and is still there.

I wonder if they would have still grown had the tree not been cut down?
Care MacADNski: There are some on the lawn nearby but they more often grow on stumps.

Unique display. The mushrooms remind me of flowers. Nature is so surprising.
