photoblog image Purple Finch

Purple Finch

Thanks very much for the comments on my snowy surrounds last week. I am writing this two weeks later, anticipating another Sunday storm.

This week I have something more colourful - birds.

This is a male purple finch.

Sorry that this tight crop is not perfectly focussed.

I like the coloured shot, all colours matching. The 'Waifs' singer sounds like Natalie Merchant I thought.
Mary MacADNski: The singer is Vicki, the sister in the middle of the photo.
Both images are really lovely - but I think I favor the color... the red tones popping out of the snow is beautiful!
I remember you featuring the Waifs and telling us how you'd seen them in concert! Lovely music!
Mary MacADNski: I saw the waifs here in the Maritimes in '91 and in Australia in '01. I still love them.
The color version is a delight, Mary.

A smart little finch - is it quite common in your area?
Mary MacADNski: We see them in winter at feeders. In summer they are in forests.

I like the effect the b&w has, quite bright.

I believe that the birds should be in colour, especially those are distinguishing characteristics of the critters.
It is a beautiful little bird.
His colourful markings really pop out in the second image, Mary. Love how they are almost a perfect match to the branches & leaves.
Mary MacADNski: It is true about the colour with the frozen apples. I alwys thought the purple name was a bit misleading.
Pretty little bird that deserves to be in colour

I like this a lot, Mary. What a wonderful bird and I think I go for the coloured one this time. Love the brown leaves and the snow.
I love how the color version is like a perfect camouflage, Mary. How sweet!
