Shivering here in Northeast snow...makes me happy to see spring (somewhere!) Beautiful birds.
Magnifique photo printanière, les oiseaux sont très beaux.
What a wonderful image...your apple trees seem popular in all seasons, Mary.
Orange face...Tweeting...Hmmm . I once had a whole flock of these Waxwings land on telephone wires outside my house in the U.K. They must have been migrating, never seen them before, or since.
Mary MacADNski: The orange hair gave it away. Clever you!
Oh! what a great shot!! Waxwings are so beautiful, aren't they! I always enjoy your photos of them!
LOL at Frank...
Lovely song!
Mary MacADNski: You have a smart fellow there. I thought no one would get the reference.

And with a mouthful of blossom. I have only ever seen Waxwings once in my life - very occasional they erupt from mainland Europe
Mary MacADNski: We have both the cedar waxwing and the bohemian. This is the latter. The cedar are slimmer and a bit paler. I get them both here.

Lucky you! We get occasional Waxwing visitors here..

HAHAHA. Someone thinks it's already spring. smile
Mary MacADNski: I was tired of last week's snow as I assume everyone was.

How lovely - I vaguely remember having one pointed out to me when I was a child - they aren't a native bird here.
Mary MacADNski: We have both the cedar waxwing and the bohemian. This is the latter. The cedar are slimmer and a bit paler.
I've obnly ever seen these in photos, they have very unusually shaped heads.
Mary MacADNski: Both the cedar waxwing and the bohemian waxwing are common in my garden.

Great shot at the top of that bird chewing on some petals. Probably in a hurry for the fruit.

Now that bottom picture and specifically the waxwing on the left. It took me a few moments to work out what is going on there. The bird is facing away, providing a view of its nether regions. I believe that the split second you took the shot, a dropping was exiting the cloaca. But it doesn't look like dropping (wrong colour). So, next (high) possibility.

More likely it will be a cloacal protuberence (CP) which will mark the height of the breeding season. You can read the first part of this article http://www.birdvancouver.com/blog_june11.html I found. Maybe the people at this blog can verify and may be happy to use your picture. With all my birding experience I have never seen a CP so clearly recognisable as such. That is, if others more knowledgeable about waxwings agree that this is the case. We don't have waxwings.
Mary MacADNski: It seems like a large CP for a small bird. We have two types of waxwings: Cedar and Bohemian. This is Bohemian.

Appalling behaviour! Looks like apple blossom?
Mary MacADNski: Yes. apple blossom. They love the blossoms and the fallen, frozen, apples sustain them during winter/spring.
