Friend or Foe

Mister Fox's second visit this week was eventful. I sat to put my boots on to go outdoors when Ruby wanted out.  I opened the door for her, finished my boots and followed her outside.  Here the fox was, right on the deck, only two meters from Ruby.  I reacted quickly, chasing the fox, then ran in to get the camera.  This first one is a crop of the closest shot and the others are from across the pond.

I assume this Mister Fox is a danger to Ruby. Do foxes come close to the house when they are hungry?? Great for you to be that quick with the camera, Mary.
She's a real beauty, Mary. I hope no one ever uses her fur for their own vanity.

do you think that Ruby would be at risk? Or the fox? Mr Fox looks to be an excellent condition; what a fabulous tail.

Oh, this is a rare photo - I once met a fox during a walk in the Black Forest - I heard that we should stand quietly while facing a fox.

Animals can do strange things. I would think that Ruby would be aware of a fox in close, very close proximity and protest iso wanting out.

The fox is really a handsome animal - a pity that they have some bad habits. Great shots, especially the top one.
Difficult to imagine a fine creature like this sitting outside ones back door.
I love how the fox is looking directly into the camera and stands out so clearly against the snow. A beautiful animal.
Great shot of a beautiful animal. I understand that cats usually see off foxes: there was a BBC TV programme some years ago with night-time shots of someone's back garden, showing foxes and cats ignoring one another deliberately smile

What a lovely looking animal.
Worrying when you have a cat but they are beautiful animals. We have more foxes in the cities and towns these days than in the countryside
he looks defiant in the first picture Mary... a beautiful animal in his winter coat....petersmile
