Closed For the Season

It will be a while till this wharf is ready for boats. This wharf is normally taken up for the winter, out of the water. Photo taken in mid-March.

Our winter began unusually with everything freezing solid in November. Eight thousand acres of potatoes and thousands of acres of many other vegetables froze in the fields. The freezing followed weeks of rain. Farmers now have to deal with these fields before planting this years crops.

the shot makes a good starting point for your anecdote, Mary. these challenges are of a nature that people from this part of the world do not need to deal with.
Care MacADNski: No, this is something you would not deal with, happily I'm sure.

Not a Red Line!
Un bateau aurait du mal à  passer avec toute cette glace.
Care MacADNski: It is mostly melted by now. Everything froze early this year.

After what you say I feel sorry for the farmers
Care MacADNski: It was fishers too. Oyster and mussel lines have to be sunk below the forthcoming ice and many aquaculturists were not finished the job. Those lines would break with the ice movement and pressure. Winter has never come in such a way in my memory.
Bad news for your farmers

That sounds an onerous challenge to make sure that you have chips on the table.
Care MacADNski: Winter has never come in such a way in my memory. Fishers were affected too. Oyster and mussel lines have to be sunk below the forthcoming ice and many aquaculturists were not finished the job. Those lines would break with the ice movement and pressure.
Brrr! Nice bit of jazz to warm things up!
Care MacADNski: I am listening to it now. Love that tenor sax. My son plays one.

What a hard winter you have - but the spring will come, this is one of the events we can rely on in our times.
Care MacADNski: The winter was not especially hard. It was the sudden deep onset. Freezing temperatures came early and severely.
It looks so cold, Mary. Makes me shiver just to look at it. Feel bad for the farmers who lost so much of their crops. Hope the coming season will be better for them.

Great pictures, I hadn't realised your winter had been quite so bad. I'm presuming those crops are completely lost to the farmers.
Care MacADNski: The winter was not bad at all. It was the sudden deep onset. Freezing temperatures came early and severely. The crops are definitely lost. A whole lot of mush in the fields.
